BUTTER PRICES.
One reads that the distributors have again raised the retail price of butter locally to 1/3 for finest. The present wholesale price in London at 110/ per cwt is 1/OA, while the present wholesale price locally is 1/3}, 144/8 per cwt, a difference of 3d per lb. No wonder Britain accuses us of "dumping." Our price should only rise Id for every 0/ rise in London. During the post-war high prices period the Dairy Control Board of that day agreed to keep local prices at Id per lb above London parity, and here it is forced up to 3d without cause. The London end can "bull" or "bear" the market at will, but even so, 3d per lb above Loudon parity is not playing the game to the consumer here, without a corresponding increase in our purchasing "power. Prices are up all roiuid, but our wages are not. U.11.P.
