CHEESEMAN MEMORIAL FLOWER SHOW.

Despite the tardy coming of spring, there was a fine display of native flowers at the opening of the Clieeseman Mc■tiorial Flower Show. Golden and scarJet kowliai, kumarahou and clematis wore most conspicuous, but there were many other interesting and lovely (lowers.

Though the entries were not so numerous as last year, they were of very high standard. Some are deserving of special mention. Roma Chatfield won the Sir Edwin Mitehelson Memorial prize for her beautifully-arranged and labelled exhibits. The Bird Protection Society's prize for the best collection of plants bearing food for birds went to Owen Fletcher. Most noticeable in this collection was the flower of the mountain (lax, Phormium Colensoi.

Richmond and Tom Afford sent in two fine displays of young native trees and plants in pots. Both brothers are the proud possessors of a blossoming Ourisia, or mountain primula, and Tom, who is only nine, had another mountain plant in flower, a Gnaphalium. A Whangarei member of the "Star" wildfiower circle, Charles Naltler, aged 11 years, sent a splendid collection of native flowers and berries.

The following prizewinners are members of tlie "Star" wildflower circle:— Velina Thompson, Margaret I-largreaves, Odine Woodward, Rira Mackie (2), Owen Fletcher (3).
