STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

ENGAGED IN N.Z. CUP. Epris, who won the Winter Cup, lias come in for some discussion in connection with the New Zealand Cup. He showed form up to n mile and a. quarter last season, and his effort in getting third in the Geraldine Cup with 8.13 last Thursday was encouraging. MAY CO WE NORTH. ; Provided he trains on all right, it is on the cards that H. Kama will make a trip to the Auckland Racing Club's meeting, where Horowhenua's engagements include the Mitchelson Cup. He competed in this event last spring, Free Air making the trip a success by winning the Trial Hurdles. TRIP MAY BE CURTAILED. According to information to hand this week, the Trentham trainer T. K. George may shorten his stay in Australia. Some of his horses have not done well on the trip. The idea of going on to Melbourne may be dropped, and he may leave Sydney for home after the Australian Jockey Club's meeting next month. HORSES FOR SUVA. Seven horses, Pola Dance, Springtime, The Pullet, Notamint, a three-year-old filly by Little England from Arch Angel, ft three-year-old filly by Little England from a Spalpeen mare, and a three-yeaa-old filly by Surveyor from Te Moti, who were recently purchased by Mr. G. L. Stead for Suva, will be shipped next Saturday. They were to have been sent over somq. time ago, but no boat was available, and they have been at Ellerslie in the interim. RELATED TO KNIGHTLIKE. The Surgeon is reported to have paid one of the biggest dividends ever returned by ft horse finishing second under the 75-2o system when lie was runner-up at Ashburton last Saturday. Ho is six years old, but has done very little racing. He commenced his career last season and was unplaced in his three starts, while he has only made two appearances this term. He is by Shambles from the English-bred mare Sweet Charity and is a lialf-brothcr to Knightlike. . A GOOD HACK. , Southern critics have a high opinion of the Geraldine winner Violenta, who must be above ' the average. She is a four-year-old mare by Tea Tray from Lady and was ' bred by Mr. B. H. Edkins. She did not win as a two-year-old, but in" Slier only two races last season at three years she won both of them, so.; she- has'" now been successful three times'•'on 'end. She is a half-sister to Ark Rpyal, .and. a- sister to Platter. Violenta is owned and trained at Oamaru by the trotting. trainer J. Henderson. GETTING ON.

Dodge, who won the Geraldine Cup on Thursday, is a seven-year-old gelding by Chief Ruler from Toiling Tessie, an English-bred mare'by Santoi. Lodge won the Summer Handicap, nine furlongs, at the last Grand National meeting, while last season he scored on several occasions, mostly at minor meetings in the South Island, his best effort during that , term being when he won- over a mile and a distance at the Soutii Canterbury meeting in -April. He is engaged in the New Zealand Cup. ENGAGED AT DUNEDIN. The Dunedin Jockey Club lias drawn a fine lot of nominations for the spring meeting. There is a useful contingent from Riccarton, including Fleeting Glance, Vitaphone, Quietly, Silver Sight, Golden Emblem, Ping Coat —Pollyform filly, Hororata, Tail Light, Wild Chase, Paper Slipper, Greek Shepherd, Culotte, Pelmet, Greek Vase, Penelope, Document, Cerne Abbas, Sir Hugh, Tuirau, Shirley Royal, Star Raider, Nocturnus, Hunting Bag, Madam l'ompadour, Fair Weather, and Metal Bird. TE AWAMUTU JUVENILES. Rulette, who was to make her first appearance in the Juvenile Handicap at Paeroa to-day if the meeting had not been postponed, is a filly by Chief Ruler from Lucella, and is thereiore a full-siriter to Supremacy and The Begum (the dam of Stretto, winner of the Avondale Stakes). Rulette is one of A. Cook's team at 'i'e Awamutu. He had also another two-year-old in the same event in Maxown, a colt by General Latour from Rikoriko, by Day Comet from Kilbeggan (the dam of Karapot'i).':. Karapoti* wits''also by General .Latour. » FROM SPEEDY FAMILY. Dawning Light, the winner of the two-year-old race at Foxton last Saturday is a brown filly by Arausio from Aureate, a sister to Desert Gold and Nigger Minstrel. Dawning . Light is a half-sister to Okiimagan, , whom she greatly resembles. She' <is a big-framed somewhat angular filly, ( with plenty of room for development! She ran green, as was only natural, 'but she is possessed of a fair share of the family pace, and is bound to improve. W. Pine has reason to congratulate himself on his judgment in selecting a yearling at the National Sales. In 1934 he picked out Symcony from Mr. Lowry's lot, and .got her.-for 30gs. ; He won with her at Foxton, and passed her on at a substantial profit. Last January he and his patron, Mr. W. Carson, the latter having his first venture on the turf, selecting Dawning Light, and got her for 70gs. It is a coincidence that both Symcony and Dawning Light were the cheapest of the Okawa yearlings, and that both should start on their careers by winning. "MODEL OF CONSISTENCY." .

Davistock has been a model of consistency since being taken over by R. Johnson. Last season he won four races and was thrice second and twice third, winning ! £515, his win on Saturday at Foxton raising his tally to £660 since coming to New Plymouth (says a Taranaki writer). Davistock's first win last season came in the Awahou Hack Cup at Foxton, where he scored rather easily. His first win in open company was at New Plymouth, where he won the big race the second, day at Christmas by five lengths from Fersen. At. the-February meeting he beat that useful, horse ■Cherry King by a length in the Taut Memorial. Davistock looked Unlucky to lose the Tonks Stakes by a -head to Chief Marionette in the following iWeek at Hawera, and in the Ngahuru Handicap at New Plymouth the week before Easter he chased Trishna home. His turn, however, came in the Easter Handicap at Wairarapa, where he beat Speed and a good field. Davistock is a seven-year-old eon of David and Sumilia, the dam of. that good horse King's Knave, and while he will probably not improve any more, lie is a useful horse in good hands. He should win more races this season.
