FALSE DOCUMENT.
OFFENCE FIVE YEARS AGO.
INTERPRETER FOR SENTENCE. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Friday. An interpreter, Wiremu Erueti, of Ruatoki, pleaded guilty this morning to causing a postal official to act on a false document for £49 1/1, drawn on the Native Trust Office in favour of Te Aroroa Tepere, and was committed for sentence to the Auckland Supreme Court. The offence was committed on January 27, 1930. Detective J. McLeod stated that Erueti usually witnessed natives' signatures to rent vouchers. On the date in question he got another native to sign Tepere's name and sent Tepere £20,"retaining the balance. He alleged that Tepere owed him money for Court work, and later he claimed to have paid the balance to Tepere.
Bail was allowed in two sureties of £150 each.
