AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

AUCKLAND CLUB. The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held its iirst meeting of the season on the Outer Domain on Saturday in the presence of a big gathering of sporting enthusiasts, including a number of ladies. J. W. Savidan, the New Zealand cross country champion is still suffering from the heavy cold he contracted on hoard tho Marama on his visit to Sydney, and did not compete. Sfewnrt (19ft Sin), 85ft, and C. J. O'Doiuipll (12ft 9in), 35ft, dead-heat, 1; J. Smith (10ft 9in), 84ft JOin, .'J. A. E. Sutton, 34ft Sin; J. XV. TurnbllU, 34ft 7in, nnd A, Clark, 34ft 7in, were next best, this event being keenly contested.

Throwing the Discus.—.l. Smith (35ft) 100 ft Din, 1 ; A. a. Hill (45ft), 103 ft Oin 2; A. E. Siittou (4ft), 102 ft 6in, 3. I-.. N. Roes, 101 ft Sin, and A. Clnrk, 100 ft Ilia were the next best.

At the conclusion of tho field events, Mr. W. Morton, president of the club, presented the cups won during the past season. The Kohn Cup, for highest points in all events, was won by S. A. Hanson with a total of 41 points; P. E. Castle, 3(i points, and J. W. Savldan, 33J points, were next. I'lu cup for field events was won by S. A. Hanson with 28 points. V. Amorettl, 23 points, was next. The cup for running races only wan won by P. B. Castle, 3U points, J. W. Savidan. 31 i points, being runner-up.

Mr. S. J. Gudsell, chairman of the barrier sub-committee of the Auckland Centre, presented Mr. W. Morton with a framed enlargement of the Auckland harrier team which visited Wellington recently and won the New Zealand crosscountry championship.
