BLANKET BATTLE.
SAMPLES IN PARLIAMENT.
WARMTH FOR UNEMPLOYED.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A sample, of blankets ordered by the Unemployment Board for free distribution to eligible unemployed was exhibited in the House of Representatives last night by Mr. Smith, Minister of Employment, who said that on the previous evening Mr. R. Semplo (Labour, .Wellington East) had shown an inferior blanket to the House and had promised to let him know where it had come from, but had not yet done so. The blanket he had, said the Minister, was up to specification and had been purchased by the Unemployment Board. Thirty thousand pairs of grey blankets of very high quality had been specified. Mr. F. Jones (Labour, Duiicdin South) : What is the price?
The Minister replied "£1 and 25/ per pair." If lie could trace back to the manufacturer the blanket shown by Mr. Sernple he would give the House an assurance that he would put the matter right.
Mr. Semple: If the Minister will give his assurance that the man will "not bo victimised I will give him the name. The Minister said he would give that assurance. No man would be victimised who helped him to stop exploitation of that sort.
