BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. George Mills, presiding.

Vehicular Ferry.—Approval was given to the summer time-table of the vehicular ferry service as submitted" by the Devonport Ferry Company. This is to come into operation on December 1. On weekdays the first trip from Birkenhead is timed for 5.30 a.m., earlier than hitherto, and from Auckland at 5.50 a.m. The last trip from Birkenliead is at 5.45 p.m., and from Auckland at G.lO p.m. On Sundays the first trips are from Birkenhead at 8.20 a.m., and from Auckland at 8.45 a.m., and the last trips-from Birkenhead at 8.20 p.m. and Auckland at 9.30 p.m.

Milk Control.—Mr. 11. G. A. Mason, M.P., is to be advised - that the council is opposed to the proposed amendments to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act.

Soldiers' Graves. —On behalf of the Northcote R.S.A., Mr. R. S. Norman wrote asking if it would be possible to sot aside a small portion of the public cemetery as a soldiers' plot, similar to the arrangement at Waikumcte Cemetery. The application was referred to the parks committee with a , view to endeavouring to comply with the request. Domain. —Consent is.to be sought for leasing the Bhkenhead Domain in Glenfield Road for five-yearly periods.

Beach Haven Telephone. — Representations are to be made for the provision of a street slot telephone at Beach Haven.

Water Meters. — The waterworks engineer, Mr. Walter Williams, stated that all the water meters were, working 'satisfactorily, and that the half-yearly readings would take place shortly.

Reading .Matter. —The Biikenhead group of Toe H was granted permission to establish a collection box for used magazines, etc., near the bus stop at Highbury Corner. The group members are to undertake the removal of the contents of the box and distribute them to deserving citizens in need of reading matter. The box, which is to be 3ft by 2ft, and 3M:ft deep, will be suitably finished and painted, and fixed so as to prevent interference.

Walking Time. —The Unemployed Board advised that, after careful consideration, the request to pay "walking time" to relief workers at Birkenhead under No. 5 KfVipnip. could not be trvan.tp/'.
