HABITS OF BIRDS.
WAYS TO BE INVESTIGATED
COMMITTED OF RESEARCH.
, A discussion on the need for a scheme of detailed research into the haunts, migration and habits of native birds, more particularly grey duck and other water fowl, was held at a conference yesterday between representatives of tho Auckland Acclimatisation Society and the Auckland Zoological Society.
Finally Messrs. It. A. Falla, M E. Fitzgerald (Tirau) and, J. Dobson wore appointed a research oommittoe to carry out investigations into the natural habits of water fowl and to formulate a basis for the-carrying out of observations and the recording of them. Mr. Gilbert Archey said it would be necessary to communicate with skilled observers in various parts of the province, so that the committee might have the information required furnished to it.
It was also pointed out that one method of securing data would be to ring young birds and enlist the co-opera-tion "of sportsmen to supply information as to the locality in which these birds were subsequently shot. This, it was considered, would give an indication as to the migratory habit? of the birds.
