GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

POLLARD ADVANCES. POTATOES ALSO DEARER. Chief feature of the local grain and produce markets has been a use in" the price of pollard. For some time the district's requirements have been largely obtained by imports from Australia, ua the local mills could not nearly cope with the keen demand that set in. This demand still continues, and meantime dry conditions in Australia have brought about a hardening in juices there. Two shipments from across tlio Tasnian arrived this week, but the total quantity was not large, and the bulk was placed ex ship to iill forward orders. Under the circumstances, quotations have been raised for both local and Australian pollard. Bran, too, is inquired for freely as a consequence of frequent rains and cold snaps retarding pasture growth. Supplies of this offal also arc getting short, but, so far, prices have not advanced. There is no change in the market for oats and chaff. Wheat comes forward regularly from the South, and is freely traded at the unaltered price of 5/7 per bushel. Maize is fairly firm, but the price is unchnnged at 4/3. Demand is quite good. The potato market is very firm. Stocks are>light, and local quotations are up 5/ a ton. Seed lines are ctill in demand, and stocks are getting short, but merchants are chary about purchasing in any quantity so late in the season, when sprouting may be expected. The onion market is still very firm, and the arrival of a fresh consignment o£ Californian by the Monterey failed to satisfy requirements as prices firmed aftei tliis shipment came to h'ind. A Japanese shipment, due. on Friday, should relieve the position. Wholesale Current Prices. Pollard and Bran. —Mill pricee: Pollard, £7 per ton; bran, £6 per ton.
