POWER FOR TRAMS.
QUESTION OF PURCHASE. FLAT RATE APPROVED. A recommendation of the committee of tlie whole board, concerning the system of purchasing electric power, was adopted by the Auckland Transport Boiml at its meeting this morning. The recommendation was that a flat rate charge of ,075 d per unit should bo adopted for a period of five years commencing from April 1, 1935, subject to the following conditions: (1) That if the rate of exchange alters an allowance will be made accordingly; (2) that if the price of power charged by the Government is reduced an allowance will be made accordingly; (3) that it be understood that the existing agreement is not abrogated but merely suspended during the currency of the flat rate charge. It was explained that the new sj'stom of payment would eliminate much of the computation work at the end of eaeli year which was necessary under the present system.
