I V.A.T.C. MEETING. HALL MARK'S VICTORY. MARABOU ALSO SCORES. MELBOURNE, September 8. A spectacle without parallel in Australian racing in recent years was witnessed during the running of the Memsie Stakes at the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting at Caulfield yesterday. "When the winner, Hall Mark and Feldspar, runner-up, entered the straight Hall Mark attempted to eavage Feldspar, who immediately turned on him, taking -a couple of snaps at him. Foldspar made a second attack and Voitre had practically to stop, riding him to pull him away from Hall Mark. The three-year-old Gay Circle, by Gay Shield from Nucleus, owned by Mr. G. J. Barton, of Dunedin, and trained by S. G. Ware, won the second division of the Doona Trial of .1:400, one mile and a half and a furlong.- The fourteen starters in this event included Wahroonga. Gay Circle was ridden by the apprentice W. Jenkins, who won the last Xew Zealand Cup on Steeton. Devastate was unplaced in the Warriston Handicap, and Membo finished fourth in the Sandringham Steeplechase, in which 17 started. A feature of the racing was the success of three Xew Zealand jockeys, Webster, Jenkins and Voitre. All are doing well in Victoria. The newly-established Canterbury Guineas, for three-year-olds, wae decided at the Canterbury Park races yesterday and was decisively won by Hadrian, who a week a<ro won the Hobartville Stakes at Warwick Farm. Wykehani was again second and- Fireman was third. The Canterbury Stakes was captured by the four-year-old Bulldozer. The Xew Zealand-bred gelding Dual Ratio, by Hunting Song from Speechless, ran second in the second division of the Park Stakes, in which there were 17 starters, including- Debhani. Saccula and Fulpjoy were unplaced in the Flying Handicap, Forestry and Coekpen in the September Handicap, and Legatee in the Ashbury Handicap.
