ABOLITION OF POVERTY.
A meeting was held in the Anglican Hall, Glen Eden, last evening under the auspices of the League to Abolish Poverty. Mr. A. Koutlcy presided. The principal speaker was the Rev. VV. W. Averill, who explained the objects of the league and said that no one could doubt the necessity of such an organisation to-day. Owing to a defective financial system there existed such an anomaly as poverty side by side with an abundance of real wealth. It was the purpose of the league to abolish poverty by constitutional means. An Empire-wide signed petition was to be presented to the King during the jubilee year, petitioning His Majesty to exercise the Iloyal prerogative "to make such adjustments to the financial system as shall be recommended by a judicial commission appointed to make recommendations concerning such adjustment* as shall give effect to the abovenamed purpose." The following local committee was appointed: Messrs. A. J. Jtoutley (chairman), S. -Jones (secretarytreasurer), Douglae, T>~r and Edleeton.
