TIMELY RESCUE.
CHILD IN POST-HOLE.
ALMOST SUFFOCATED. HAD FOLLOWED A DUCK. (By Telegraph.—(hrn Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, this day. A child at Houpoto, near Motu River Bridge, had a narrow escape from suffocation. The two-year-old son of Mr. E. Parkinson was missing, and after a lengthy search his father noticed his shoes showing just above the ground. The little boy had been in the habit of following a duck, and the bird had apparently fallen into a post-hole. When extricated the boy was nearly suffocated. At the bottom of the hole the duck was found dead, having been suffocated by the boy's hands and head.
