ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.
PROBATION IMPOSSIBLE. "You ask for another chance, but you have had chances before and have not reformed," said Mr. Justice Fair at. the Supreme Court this morning in sentencing Thomas Jackson Burke to six month's imprisonment for attempted breaking and entering a shop at Napier. Burke had handed up a letter to his Honor. "Probation in your case is impossible," said his Honor, "but your previous crimes have not been the most serious. From your statement you have sufficient intelligence to resist living a life of crime. Had your present crime been committed at night the least sentence I would have imposed would have been 12 months, but it was committed in daylight and the sentence will be six months, cumulative with the three months' sentence you arc now serving."
