WAKATERE BOATING CLUB.
ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT.
The Wakatere Boating Club held Us eighth annual presentation of prizes in the clubhouse, Narrow Neck, last evening ill the presence of a large number of members and their lady friends. The hall was decorated in a nautical style, with mainsails of the Wakatere clans forming a canopy hung from the ceiling, interspersed with flags. The visitors were welcomed by the commodore, Mr. Ron. Hunt, associated with him being the patron, Mr. J. Hislop, and the president, Mr. Jack Brooke. Before presenting the prizes, Mr. Hislop congratulated the officers and members of the club on its continued progress and popularity or their 14ft class of Wakateres, Mr. Hislop also expressed regret that the scheme for improving the clubhouse had not yet been possible, and he appealed to the residents for their assistance. He was particularly nleased to note that there was a move to again include Auckland in interprovincial racing in the 14ft Jellicoe class, and hoped it would succeed. Mr. Brooke thanked Mr. Hislop for his interest in the club and the presentation of the Speedwell Cup. He also thanked the executive officers and committee and donors of prizes. The principal prize winners were as follow:—Keats Shield. Wakatere, J. Hunt; Speedwell Cup, Waimarie, Ron. Hunt; run-ner-up, Waiata, Bob .Nicholas (this cup was competed for in three heats and a final) ; ladies , shield, Mrs. L. Williams; runner-up, Miss V. Hunt; Junior Cup, Whakawhero, D. Pettifor; runner-up, Wanderer, G. Amos; Eagles' Shield, Windjammer, J. Pike; runner-up, Waimarie, B. Nicholas; Nicholas Cup (ladies' race), Miss J Wnlfcer; runner-up, Mrs. L. Williams; Amodeo Cup, Wakatere, J. Hunt; runnerup Waiata, B. Nicholas; Richardson Cup (cruising race). Waiata, B. Nicholas; runner-up, Wahine, F. Smith; crews' race, J Hunt and J. Brooke 1. Ron. Hunt and G Kemp and Neil Wing and S. Ivil, deadheat, 2; Black Stick Shield, Wlmmera, B. Martiri: Waiata, B. Nicholas, runner-up: married men's race, I. Way. Waiata, 1 : novelty race, Wakatere (J. Hunt) 1, Waiata (B. Nicholas) 2: trophy for most capsizes during season, R. Gurr (one capsize). Club handicaps : First. Windward (J. Amos) 1 Wahine (F. Smith) 2: second, Whakawhero (S. Richardson) 1, Waimarie (G. Kemp) 2: third race. Wakatere (J. Hunt) 1, Whakawhero (S. Richardson) 2.
During the evening a musical programme was contributed by Mrs. Frater and Messrs. Rpx Tates, W. -Opnimell. A. Lucas, D. Gray and R. Hanlin. After supper dancing was carried on until a late hour, Mr. Cyril Poland being M.C.
