CONTROL BOARD MEETING

At the meeting of the Control Board of the A.F.A: last evening a challenge was received from the Wellington Association for the Flyger Rose Howl, with the suggestion that the gume be played as a curtain-raiser to the Chatham Cup fixture. It was also suggested that a return, match should.be held at Wellington '«flfif> *he follbwiftjf: 'S&urday, _ presumably ae a. curtain-raiser to the New Zealand, final of the Chatham Cup. It was agreed, that the match would be ideal, but the question arose as to the previous inability of Wellington to conform to the rules governing the trophy. These etate that the players must be under 21 years of age and must ,-not have taken part in more than one senior game. It was felt that any alteration in the rules would be defeating the object for which the trophy had been donated, namely, to encourage junior players to gain experience and fit them for senior rank. It was decided to advise the Wellington Association that, as it had challenged, the board assumed that it would be able to field a team complying with the conditions, and it was agreed to accept the challenge and stage the match ae suggested on that understanding. In view of the jubilee of the association next year a sub-committee was appointed to compile an historical record of the game in Auckland. A communication was received from the South Auckland Association stating that arrangements were well in hand for the match between South Auckland and an Auckland B team for, the first match for the Hallyburton Johhstone Shield to be played at Hamilton on Saturday week.

It was reported by the minor division committee that arrangements were being made to send on tour a representative team, under the age of 21 years, probably from August 25 to 31. It was stated that finance was required to make the tour a success, and the board agreed to assist in this direction. Officials were appointed to the following grounds on Saturday next: Blandford Park, Messrs. L. Munro, W. Walker, J. Ball; North Shore, Mr. W. Morris; Western Springe, Mr. W. E. Smithyman.
