ATHLETICS.

GIRLS' ASSOCIATION. Tno ninth annual meeting of the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association was held at the Y.W.C.A. last night. Miss A. L. Loudon presided. Members stood In silence In memory of Miss Jean Armour, who for several years had been a prominent member of the association, being a successful competitor in individual events. From the report and the balance-sheet it was evident that the A.G.A.A. is now firmly established. There was an increase in the number of teams participating in last year's sports day. The firms and clubs associated with the movement from the beginning are still supporting it, aud the movement is attracting to its ranks new groups ot girls. Mr. N. A. Rush, the physical director, reporting on the result of the period of training prior to the sports day, said there was a marked improvement in the general health, posture and physique of the girls. Officers elected :—President, Mrs. W. H. Cocher ; vice-presidents, Miss A. I*. Loudon, Mrs. L. Auther; secretary, Miss B. Knight; treasurer, Mr. D. O'Halloran; executive committee, Mrs. Horne, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Thomas, Misses Hutton, Leys, Musgrove. Miss G. Hutton was appointed director of games, and as Mr. A. Rush was unable to continue this season as drill director the appointment of his successor was left in the hands of the executive. It was decided to hold a sports meeting on October 19, and weekly practices are to begin in the Drill Hall, Rutland Street, on Tuesday, August 12.
