WOODVILLE FIRE.
CLUB HOTEL DESTROYED.
LICENSEE HURT IN JUMPING.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WOODVILLE, this day.
Fire destroyed the Club Hotel, a twostorey wooden building of 40 rooms, yesterday morning. The building was one of the oldest landmarks in the town, having been erected in 1870. It was the property of the Mandel Estate, Wellington, and had been occupied by Mr. J. W. Reid, the present licensee, for only a few months. Mr. Reid had a narrow escape and injured his hip when jumping to safety from the parapet on the first floor. Two adjacent premises, occupied by R. Johnston, land agent, and Kee Sue, fruiterer, were slightly damaged. The furniture was insured for £350.
