LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
INTER-ISLAND MATCH.
NORTH ISLAND TEAM
The North Island selector, Mr. T. A. McClymont, this afternoon announced the North Island team to meet the South Island at Carlaw Park on August 17, as follows:— Full-back.—N. Campbell (Marist). Three-quarters.—L. Brown (City), W. Tittleton (South Auckland), A. E. Cooke and E. T. Mincham (Richmond). Five-eighth.—S. Prentice (Richmond). Half-back.—R. Powell (Richmond). Forwards. —Front row: W. Telford (Richmond), L. Hutt (Ponsonby). Hooker: J. Laird (Marist). Second row: C. Satherly (Richmond), W. Large (Hawke's Bay). Breakaway: T. Timms (South Auckland). Reserve.—C. Hunt (Taranaki), who is to play in the second spell. A curtain-raiser to the inter-island match will be two Auckland A and 15 teams. The Auckland selectors will be working in conjunction with the New Zealand selectors in the picking of these sides, as there are several players who were unable to gain a place in the North Island thirteen who still have prospects of qualifying for the New Zealand team. The New Zealand selectors will view this trial match, in which reserves will be given chances.
