MILK COUNCIL.
AMENDMENTS TO ACT.
SECRETARY TO EXPLAIN.
"These amendments, are the most drastic I have ever seen in my life. A man won't be able to call his home his own shortly," said Mr. J. H. Beale at last night's meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council, when a deputation from the Fresh Milk Producers and Vendors' Association asked the council to support it in opposing , the amendments to the Milk Act which tlie Milk Council wae seeking to have made. "If put through, the amendments will put the small man out of business, and I think we should go to some means to protect him. I wonder at the audacity of the Milk Council in to put such a measure through." Mr. R. Mills: We have been asked to give an opinion on these amendments, and we now have the chance. I don't think the Milk Council should have power to borrow as is proposed. lam not against the Milk Council, but I think they are going too far. The Mayor, Mr. T. McNab: The Milk Council costs us about £9000 a year. We should get the best possible service. Mr. Greenfield said that the amendments as placed before the council were in tabloid form and it might be as well if the council had the complete amendments before it before coming to any decision. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to ask the secretary of the Milk Council to wait upon the Borough Council at a special meeting and explain the amendments.
