THAMES VALLEY POWER.

MEETING OF THE BOARD. Mr. Joseph Price presided at the August meeting of the board on Tuesday over a full attendance of members. Loan of £20,000.—A letter was received from the Treasury relative to the proposed loan of £20,000, and stating that section 29 of the Finance Act, 1932 (No. 2), is wide enough to authorise the raising of a loan on the instalment plan without the necessity of involving section 32 of the Local Bodies Loan Act, 1926. A copy of the Order-in-Council to be gazetted would be duly forwarded. The Auckland Savings Bank wrote stating that it was prepared to accept the board's application for the loan of £20,000 on the instalment system, at 3% per cent, for a term of 20 years. A resolution was passed authorising the raising of the loan. Stock Electrocuted.—The Eagle, Star and British Dominions Insurance Company notified in respect to the claim of Mr. L. J. McNair, of Tirau, for cows electrocuted, that as he had not carried out his obligations to cut back trees, the claim could not be recognised. It was decided to write Mr. McNair stating the board did not admit liability. Line Extension.—The secretary of the Tokoroa Progress League wrote stating that it had been suggested that an application be made to the Unemployment Board for labour in connection with the erection of the power line to Tokoroa, and asking what steps should be taken by the league. It was decided that the executive, when in Wellington, should interview the Unemployment Board with a view to obtaining better facilities for power boards to employ relief workers on power lines. Waihi Plains Reticulation. —A letter was read from the Tauranga Electric Power Board enclosing copy of a communication sent to Mr. W. Mathers, Waihi Plains, stating it was not a payable preposition to reticulate that district at the present time, but there was no objection to the Thames Valley Board supplying requirements until euch time as the lauranga lines were extended. Furniture Damaged.—A claim was received from the Auckland Furniture Removal Specialists for furniture damaged by a truck coming in contact with one of the board's stay wires at Turua. It was decided that the damage be assessed and that the company's solicitor be advised that the matter was receiving attention. _ The Engineer's Report.—The engineer, Mr. N. G. MeLeod, reported that the route for the line on the Waihi Road had been surveyed and some of the material distributed. A severe lightning storm passed over the Hauraki Plains on Sunday, July 21, putting out of action two transformers ou the Kerepeehi block. The cover of Perkin's transformer was blown completely to pieces, and one of the lightning arresters destroyed. The Kerepeehi Pump Syndicate's 3 h.p. pump motor was burnt out during the storm. Finance.—lt was decided that the executive be empowered to interview the Loans Board in Wellington in order to obtain information with regard to the raising of loan moneys for further reticulation, and also in connection with the conversion of the London loan of £350,000; also that the board confirm the special committee s action in authorising the engineer, Mr. MeLeod, to visit the Southland Power Board in connection with the sale of their plant to the Government.
