LYNNDALE AMATEURS.
Nine senior and six junior Lynndale members competed in the 43-mile senior and 13-mile junior races conducted by the centre. On the outward run to the turning point in both races the competitors had a tail wind, and on turning for home had to slog against a very strong wind. Les. Whyle put up the best performance on the day for himself and his club, finishing second off the limit mark of 3.30. Les. was beaten by J. Johnson, who only a week previously had transferred from Lynndale to Mamikau. As many Lynn-
dale boys were not aware of this, Phil Johnson was very liberally treated off the 3.0 mark, not having been pulled back at all from his last centre handicap over the same distance, though the limit was put back 1.0
In the senior event Roger Lupton finished in thirteenth place, and Alan Hardman in sixteenth place. On the scratch mark the club had three members in C. Gooder, S. Alderson and E. Hughes out to do their best off the honour mark for the first time. Stan Alderson found the going too fast for him, and had to let his co-markers go on at the top of the Henderson Hill, as did Graham Hughes on the mile hill. At the top of this hill there were only Colin Gooder and A. W. D. Robinson left, and they rode together to the turn and back to Brigham's Creek, where Colin had to let the Manukau member go also. Credit must go to C. Gooder helping Robinson gain time, this being only gained by 34s from the 4.0 bunch. Lynndale boys do not seem to realise the benefit to be gained from riding in these open centre races, as the entries for this centre race were very disappointing to Lynndale officials, who are doing their best to foster the sport. On Saturday the Takapuna Club will be the guests of the Lynndale Club on their circuit at New Lynn, the junior race being over two laps (nine miles), and the senior four laps (18 miles). The junior race will start at 2 p.m. This event is a very popular annual race with members of both clubs, so large fields and very interesting races are expected. All Lynndale members who are bringing out refreshments are asked to leave them at the back of the Delta Theatre. All points for the club's Points Cup count for the races on Saturday.
