FRAUD ALLEGED.
SIX-YEAR-OLD CHARGES.
AUCKLAND INTEREST.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
Charges of obtaining £200 by false pretences, of stealing two motor cars, of a total value of £410, of obtaining credit by fraud and of escaping from custody were made against Herbert Lawrence Handley, alias Herbert Howard, alias Herbert Lawrence, aged 41, a garage proprietor and painter, before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day.
The full text of the charges was that on January 26, 1929. no obtained £50 from Percy Bradford Wakefield by means of a false pretence; that on October 2, 1928, he obtained £150 from George Stanley Wardle by means of a false pretence; that on January 12, 1929, he stole a motor car valued at £135, the property of Used Cars, Limited, Auckland; that on November 26, 1929, he stole a motor car valued at £275, the property of Elizabeth Whittaker; that on December 12, 1928, he obtained credit by fraud in incurring a debt of £135, and that he escaped from lawful custody on February 18, 1930.
All the offencee but the last are alleged to have been committed at Auckland. A remand until August 14 was agreed to.
