LOVELOCK LOSES.
MILE RACE AT GLASGOW. WOQDERSON BEATS HIM OFF MARK LONDON", August 4. There was a sensational race at Glasgow on Saturday where an attempt was made to beat the British, mile record. Thomas, a former mile champion, who was receiving 70 yards, dropped out at twothirds of the distance, but Eiddell, with 35 yarde' start, and Reeve, 25 yards' start, drew out from S. C. Wooderson and J. E. Lovelock, both on scratch. Reeve and Kiddell were 20 yards ahead o£ the back-markevs at the bell. "Wooderson, 300 yards from the finish, challenged Lovelock'and they struggled together for 60 yards, when Wooderson sprinted again and beat Lovelock, but was unable to overtake the leaders, Reeve winning in 4.10%. Riddell was second. Wooderson'e time was 4.12 7-10 and Lovelock's 4.15 3-5. Wooderson created a Scottish record, but Lovelocke British record of 4.12 stands. After the ra«e Lovelock said he simply ' could not find the necessary finish. There was a surprise reeult in the mile race at the amateur athletic championships at White City on July 13, when Wooderson, of the Blackheath Harriers, and public school mile champion in 1933, defeated Lovelock in 4.17 2-5. Lovelock's time was 4.18 2-5.
