SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The reception room of George Court and Sons was arranged in an artistic manner yesterday afternoon when Mrs. Urquhart was hostess for a number of her friends and entertained them at bridge and mah jong. At the tables were: Mcsdames .1. 13. Johnston, A. R. Hodgson, T. Davies, A. J. Court, G. Hodgson, Pelham, Gordon Jones, St. Clair Woollauis, G. Pollock. Saunders, Higham, I". Pcot, L. Gibbs, L. Rainger, W. Wright, J. Brown, Gilford, Ackroyd, A. Davcy, G. Hart and S. Heighway.
The ladies of the Shaekleton Road Baptist Church recently held another of their pleasant afternoons. The prosi ■ dent, Mrs. L. Honcyeombe, welcomed all present, and the secretary, Mrs. S. Dowthwaitc, read the minutes of the previous meeting. The thought for the month was given by Mrs. A. Curd. Mcsdames B. Honeyconibe and Metcalf rendered a vocal duct, while an impromptu pianoforte solo was contributed by Mrs. A. Curd. Games and competitions were enjoyed.
Mrs. E. J. Busing gave a very delightful afternoon at her residence in Wellington Street, Papakura, in honour of Mrs. W. A. Pavitt, of Tuakau. Among those present were: Mcsdames W. A. Pavitt, (Dr.) G. W. Lock, G. C. Hobson, W. S. Mcllraitli, V. Goddard, R. Urquhart (Karaka), E. A. Urquhart (Karaka), J. Jarvie, G. W. Heald (Hunua), S. D. Rice, (Dr.) 11. Burrcll, W. H. Linden, G. Matheson (Auckland), D. Mcßae (Auckland), A. W. McNeish, J. F. Johnstone, D. A. Bingley, J. H. Thickett and McDonald. Mrs. J. Jarvie won the roulette, competition, and Mrs. Pavitt the hidden number.
