BARMAN AND COMPENSATION. Decision was reserved by Mr. Justice Page in a case in the Arbitration Court, where George Thompson, barman, claimed compensation from the Hotel Auckland, Limited, on the grounds that bo had strained his heart while lifting a keg of beer. Mr. Haig appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Richmond for defendant.
The statement of claim said that the accident occurred on February 1. Plaintiff had slipped while assisting to lift a 2cwt keg of beer. His average earnings had been £4 1/C a week. He claimed full compensation for the period of total disability, February 5 to May 31, the sum of £1 medical expenses, and such other compensation as might be shown to bo reasonable.
The defence was a denial that the accident had happened, and that plaintiff's incapacity had arisen from disease of the heart.
