MR. LYONS PAYING A VISIT

(Received 9.30 a.m.) NEW YOKK, July 7. The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. J. A. Lyons, arrived from Italy by the liner Rex, accompanied by his wife and staff, on his way to Washington and Ottawa. Of his visit to Washington, Mr. Lyons said: "Naturally, we will discuss matters of mutual interest. I have no proposition for a trade treaty with Australia." Mr. Lyons broadcast yesterday afternoon a talk which was relayed by shortwave to Britain and Australia. He. urged a better understanding between the peoples of Australia, America and Britain. "These peoples have a great deal in common besides the heritage of speech, and should learn to understand each other better, because the great need of the world to-day is friendship," he said. Hβ told something of his mission to Britain, and took the opportunity of thanking the British people for his welcome there. Mr. and Mrs. Lyons will be the guests of President and Mrs. Roosevelt at White House during their stay in Washington.
