AUCKLAND CENTRE.

GOODER FASTEST SENIOR. J. GILLBANKS FASTEST JUNIOR. Two road races were held under very favourable conditions by the Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre on Saturday. There was practically no wind, and in both events the old course records were substantially lowered. Fifty-eight ot the 70 entrants started in the senior race of 35 miles over an undulating course extending from Point Chevalier to Kumeu and back. The roads were in splendid condition, and after the heavy overnight rain there was no dust. The route consisted of 15 miles of concrete and 20 miles of metal surfaces. The first riders to leave at 2 p.m. wore J. McLaren, R. Linn and W. Borland with 11.30 start from the scratch pair, J. Brown and A. W. D. Robinson. At the Kumeu turn, 17$ miles out, there were 16 riders sharing, the lead, among whom was the ultimate winner, E.' D. Morris, who had taken 52.50 for the half-journey. T. Rlddell, who was second, took 51.50, and so did his co-markers J. Price and K. Clark. Others who were fast to the turn were Gooder, J. Hall and L. Nicholson, who clocked 51.5. M. Gamble, L. Dwight and S. Pinfold (all off 2.0) took 51.10. J. Brown had a fall in the mud just before reaching tho turn, where he was accompanied by A. Robinson. The pair took 50.15. Even faster speeds were evident on the return. Most of the riders were 2m faster over the second half of tho race. Brown rode away •from Robinson twice on the return, but Robinson caught his rival again and the two finished! together, but were slow in 1.40.55, against Gooder's 1.39.28. The successful seniors were:— E. D. Morris (8m), Papatoetoe, 1.43.8 1 Tom Riddell (sm), Manukau, 1.40.11.. 2 C. W. Allan (Cm), Papatoetoe, 1.41.12.. 3 Colin Gooder (4.15), Lynndale, 1.39.28, 4. Lionel Nicholson (4.15), Manukau, 1.30.29, 5; Stan G. Hilder (8m), Beach Haven, 1.43,15, C; C. Cochrane (6m), Papatootoe, 1.41.16, 7; W. Barry (6.30), Auckland, 1.41.47, 8; Jack Hall (4.15), Manukau, 1.39.33, 9; R. W. Alexander (9m), Papatoetoe, 1.44,19, 10. • Gooder was fastest in 1.39.28, and Nicholson second fastest in 1.39.29. M. T. Gamble (2m), Auckland Club, took 1.39.30, but was disqualified for not wearing his registered number. W. R. Walker was also disqualified for wearing his "feed bag" over hjs. Neither was placed. Thirty-seven started in the junior race of 13 miles to Te Atatu and back. A close finish resulted in Stites just beating Hoffmann. Placed juniors were: — T. W. Stites (Manukau), 4.0, time 36.59 1 H. A. Hoffmann (Manukau), 4.0, 37.0 2 W. McGhie (Papatoetoe), 4.0, 37.1 ... 3 Geo. W. Grigg (Manukau), 4.0, 37.2 .. 4 Les. Whylo (Lynndale), 4.0, 37.3 .... 5 J. Gillbanks (Manukau), scratch, was fastest in 35.41. The referee, Mr. Webster, informed all riders that registered numbers must be worn, otherwise he had no alternative but to disqualify. He also commented upon the state of disrepair some riders had let their numbers get into. Tho next centre races aro on July 20, and such matters will require attention of all entrants.

GLOUCESTER CLUB.

Janior out-and-home to the aerodrome: S, Rowe (9m) 1, P. Sheehan (4*30) 2, A. G. Horscroft (3.30) 3, D. King (1.30) 4. Fastest time, D. King 33.24. Winner's time 39.2. Senior, out-and-home to Papakura: W. Bowers (lm) 1, S. Sargent (lm) 2, J. Rolleson (7.30) 3, P. Bicknell (lm) 4. Fastest time, B. Bowers (winner) 75.40.

AUCKLAND CLUB.

The Auckland Cycle Club's weekly road pvents were continued on Saturday at Panmure under ideal racing conditions. The trophy race this week was in the junior division, the winner of which received a nmdal presented by Mr. Coc. Johnson. The fields were well up to the standard, 40 competing in all. Twenty-two seniors started in their event over a distance of 34 miles, two circuits of the Howick course being used. Result: — * P. Prior (1.15) '. 1 J. Whitten (2.30) 2 S. Hayes (1.15) 8 S. Litchfield (3.0) 4 V. Prior also recorded fastest time, in lhr 29m 11s. A record field of 15 contested the junior medal race, the result being: P. Collier (4.10), time 22.25 1 B. Collier (4.10) , 2 G.Ralph (3.30) 3 D. Banks (30s) 4 B. Harvey (scr) recorded fastest time, in 20.14.

AUCKLAND LADIES' CLUB,

The Auckland Ladles' Amateur Cycling Club held a seven-mile race at the Mount Albert course on Saturday. The race was won by Miss Violet Baird, who caught tho limit riders in the fifth lap, and finished in 21m 435. Miss Hazelle Storey was next, 21s later, her time being 23m 595. Miss Baird gained fastest time.

ROTORUA CLUB.

Result of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's 251-mile road race, in unfavourable conditions: —E. Martin (1.0), lh 20m 8 l-ss, 1; W. Grey (scr), 2; K. Martin (scr) 3. Fastest time: E. Martin.

HUNTLY.

A road raco of 14 miles, between Huntly and Kangirirl, was held by the Waikato Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday. It was won by H. Bayley, of Marton, who completed the course in 36.40 2-5. Cliff Bryant finished second, and also registered fastest time, 36.25. G. Shaw (37.26) was third.

THAMES,

The Thames Cycling Club's 18-milo race on Saturday resulted: —T. Jensen 1, D. Andrew 2, S. Jones 3. Fastest time: K. C. Bun, 40.57 2-5. Juniors.—C. Hawkins 1, R. Martin 2, N. Speira 3.
