ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY.
NEW LYNN BRANCH.
A surprise vieit was paid to the residence of the chief of the society, Mr. E. F. Stanley George, by the members of the council of the society and their friends, the occasion being the celebration of the chief's birthday. There was a very good attendance, and dancyig was enjoyed during the evening. Songs were rendered by Miss E. Laurie, solos; Mrs. J. Clark and Mr. F. George, duets; Mrs. J. Grieves and Miss Betty August, duets; Mr. David Brady, solos. During the evening the chieftain, Mr. R. Younie, on behalf of those present, presented the chief with'a tartan scarf. The chief, in reply, asked that the gathering express their congratulations to three other members of the society who were also present, whose birthdays were within a few days of his own. They were his wife, Mrs. George, the hon. secretary, Mr. A. Ferguson, and the hon. treasurer, Mr. W. von Schramm. The music for the dancing was provided by Mr. D. Brady and Mr. W. Spence. Among those present were: Mesdames D. Brady, J. Clark, Mitchell, Spence, Nball, George, Grieve, Findlay, Cruickshank, Misses Laurie, M. Laurie, D. George, Jean Gordon, Betty August, Noel Findlay. The evening was concluded with the singing of "Auld, Lang Syne."
