Shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday Constable L. R. Morgan saw a young man carrying a door mat down Queen Street, Onehunga. As the shops were shut he aeked the man where he got the mat and was told that he had picked it up off the footpath. This morning Frank Bisman, a married man, of Otahuhu, was charged before Messrs. J. Laking and T. H. Pardington, J.P.'s, with stealing the article from the Club Hotel. Mr. R. D. Rugg, licensee of the hotel, identified the mat. which had been removed from the doorstep of. his | hotel. Bisman was convicted and fined £1. The mat was ordered £o b§ returned > to its owner,
