FINAL GALLOPS.

TEENTHAM MEETING.

ORAPAI SPRINTS WELL

RIOTOUS ANI> TITDOR IMPRESS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON", this day.

A , -'southerly storm buret with fury on Wellington during Saturday night and had still not abated when work began at Trentham this morning, but during the next couple of hours the outlook improved, and by mid-forenoon the prospects overhead were decidedly brighter, though the wind was etill at gale force. Rain, of course, has ruined all chance of a good track for this week's racing, but the going may not be eo bad as it has often been at Trentham in the winter. Most of the visitors are now on hand, but though they were all out on the tracks this morning not much serious work wae done against the clock. Glenvane easily beat Refresher over seven furlongs in 1.35, the last half mile in 56%e. Sunny Maid might have bettered her half mile in 545. Dollar Bill came down from the three-furlong post in 40s. Wahine Nui again went well to record 52s for half a mile. Hunting Jay was a length in front of Esteem, after running eeven furlongs in 1.37, the last half mile in 565. Isaacs, appearing at home on the going, beat Imasurvey by two lengths over half a mile in 53%5. - Orapai did the best half mile while defeating Hunting Lodge by a length in 51%5, thus showing that the going was not as bad as it could have been. Water Power, who wae stopping, was half a length in front of Brown Pearl at the end of half a mile in 56e, Full Throttle taking 55s for a similar distance. Stanchion, who looks in fine order, did six furlongs in 1.24, the last half-mile in 55V&S. Lord Val strode over half a mUe easily in 565. Gold Fox pleased in beating Lapel by three-quarters of a length over half a mile in 52 l-ss. Curie was three lengths ahead of Sisterina after traversing five furlongs in 1.8., the last half-mile in 54 l-ss. Solaria was too good for Abbey Feale over half a mile, but was not timed. Astarth, under a hold, was with Kia Tina at the end of half a mile in 545. Merry Peel ran three furlongs in 425, and Collision half a mile in 555. It was impossible to ascertain who some of the other horses were, but there did not appear to be any outstanding.gallops amongthem. Very little schooling was done over hurdles. Prince Val (R. Thomson), who has apparently quite recovered from his soreness, jumped two hurdles well, and Swift and Sure (R. Drinkwater) went straight and cleanly at his four obstacles. The first to go over the country were Cardhu (J. Mcßae) and Petrarch (A. McDonald), both jumping well, with the former giving the better display. Riotous (J: Mcßae) and Tudor (P. Burgess) were brilliant over four fences, with Tudor, who looks better than anticipated, particularly impressing. Sir Musk (B. Sullivan) was to have accompanied them, but ran off again at every fence after getting over the sodwall. The Ranger (R. Smith , ,, Cotsfield (J. Walsh) and Monastic- (R. Drinkwater) completed schooling with a similar task. The Ranger led over the first three, but Cotsfield ran up to be on terms for the last. Monastic jumped better than on Saturday. Dunmure and London schooled yesterday morning, with London giving the better exhibition. Their work, "and that of other steeplechasers this morning, -was confined to pacing. There were no further scratchings to noon to-day. .
