WHAKATANE FLOODS.

RANGITAIKI PLAINS AWASH. RIVER'S HIGH-LEVEL RECORD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. Heavy rains during the last few days have caused slips and flooding in all directions, both the Whakatane and Rangitaiki Rivers having overflowed their banks so as to cause extensive flooding on the Rangitaiki Plains. In the lower portions settlers had ample warning, and no serious loss of stock has been reported. A report from Galatea states that the Rangitaiki River reached its highest known levels last night. The road to Whakatane West station was closed yesterday owing to flood waters scouring the road out. Waimana Gorge is blocked with slips and the roads are under water in the direction of Matata, but it is expected that the service car will get through from Rotorua. The weather is still threatening.
