SOCCER PROGRAMME.

CHATHAM CUP MATCH. ABELS TO MEET THISTLE. THREE SENIOR COMPETITION GAMES. A start will be made with the Chatham Cup competition locally to-morrow afternoon when the first round tie will be played on Blandford Park between Thistle, holders of the national club championship, and Abels. Ponsonby is the only othei entrant in Auckland. The match is down to start at 2.30, owing to the provision that extra time be played in the event of a draw at the termination of 90 minutes. Thistle will have by no means an sf.sy task to dispose of Abels, who, though playing in the second grade, forced Ponsonby last season to a replay in the first round ot the Chatham competition. Abels is composed of experienced players, several of whom have rep. honours to their credit, and a stirring cup tie game is confidently expected. Three senior competition games will also bu played to-morrow afternoon. Eastern Suburbs will cross the harbour to oppose Shore United in the first of the second round games in the championship, and while the home team will start favourite, Suburbs are likely to make a stern attempt to improve their position at the bottom of the table. Comrades and Metro-College will fight out their return match on Western Springs, while Y M C.A. will meet Mount Albert Grammar School Old Boys at Victoria Park. Ponsonby has a "stand-down" day in the senior competition cwing to the Chatham Cur tie. In order to keep the players fit, however, the Ponsonby secretary, Mr. L. S.
