ASSAULT ON LIFTMAN.
FINE OF £4 IMPOSED. For asFaultins a liftman in a city building on May 17. Bn«i1 S. Waters was fined £4 bv Mr. W. R. MeKean. S.M., in the Police Court this inorninjr. Waters, who was charged on summons. did not appear, but was represented by Mr. R. A. Singer. He pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Fox said that on Ihe evening of May 17 the lift in the buildings was out of order, a notice being posted up to that effect. The mnn assaulted, Howard Keith Brown, and the caretaker of the building, hearing someone 'kicking at the door of the lift entrance on another floor, proceeded there, and saw defendant. They remonstrated with him for kicking the door, and defendant replied by stating that ho could please himself" and that the lift should be running. ''Without any provocation Waters struck Brown on tn* jaw," said Mr. Fox. "Brown fell on the floor. His jaw wa4 sprained. Waters was quite sober at the time." Mr. Singer said the incident was the result of temper, defendant being under the impression that Brown was preventing hinv. from using the lift. "It was apparently a severe blow, said the magistrate in fining Waters £4. "If Brown like*; to make application I will consider awarding him P» rt of the fine."
