WEEK OPENS STEADILY.

GOVERNMENT STOCKS WANTED

Business opened up quietly on the Auckland .Stock Exchange, and a fair list of sales was recorded at the first call. Bidding was steady at about late rates. There was again a good inquiry for Government stocks covering most issues, but offerings were scarce. 'Forties were available at £103 10/ and '39-'43 at £106. Bank shares showed little change. New Zeolands have been forced down a little. They were again on offer at £2 10/6, and a buyer came in at a shilling under that i price. _~. , ... i In insurances, South British maintained the week-end position, with a buyer at £4 16/3 and no New Zealands were quoted wide apart, from £3 7/ to £3 9/. New Zealand Breweries were on offer at . £2 13/, but there were no buyers. Bidding Quiet. Bidding was dull at noon. The main feature was a rise of 1/9 recorded by the Farmers' Co-op. "A" preference shares in two transactions. There were further buyers in at-£l 3/. but no more sellers. Among miscellaneous, Dunlops had a range between 16/1 and 16/7.
