ORPHANS' CLUB.

LORD GALWAY WELCOMED.

PRESENTED WITH BADGE.

The Auckland Orphans' Club accorded the* Governor-General, Lord Galway, a, most cordial welcome on Saturday night on the occasion of his first visit to too club, and during the evening presented to him a patron's gold badge carrying the monogram " A.0.C." The presentation was made by the president, Mr. C, M. Croft, who pinned it to the lapel of Lord Galvvay's coat and drew attention to the club's motto emblazoned on the banner, "AH ye who enter here abandon care." In welcoming his Excellency, the president said Lord Galway attended in a twofold capacity—as a representative of the King and as a patron of the club. The Auckland Orphans' Club was the parent club of Orphandom in the Dominion and was founded 45-years ago because yachtsmen at that time wished to continue the friendships made on the Waitemata by meeting socially during the winter months. In thanking the members for the welcome accorded to him, his Excellency expressed the hope that he would meet them again on many future occasions. As he left the clubroom the members sang the National Anthem and "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." The twelfth session of the Birkenhead and Northcote Orphans' Club was opened on Saturday night. The president, Mr. G. B. Chinnery, presided.
