TEMPERANCE WORK.
j Auckland District W.C.T.U. School of Methods met last week in the temperance room. Mrs. Kasper presided over a fair attendance of members. The study showed the effects of alcohol on various parts of the body. Papers were given by Mrs. Burnett on the heart, Miss Read on the liver, and Mrs. Kasper on the brain. Suggestions were ' also given for correct public speaking. At the district executive which followed, unions were well represented. Feeling reference was made to the death of the late Mrs. McCombs. Further arrangements were made for the coming visit of Mrs. Moffat Clow, president of North Ireland W.C.T.U. The following temperance fact was given, "Alcohol," even in small doses as found in a glass of beer, is injurious. Diseases of the .liver occur frequently as the result of the habitual use of alcohol."
