The Indian hockey team gave a brilliant display at Timaru yesterday, defeating the South Canterbury representatives by 12 goals to 0. At half-time the visitors led by 3 goals to 0.
The Indians displayed wonderful team work, their positional play being outstanding. The home side battled gamely, but was unable to cope with the brilliance of the Indian forward line, of which Dhian Chand was the pivot. He scored six goals, Fernandez two, Shahabuddin two, and Rup Singh two.
Since the commencement of their New Zealand tour, members of the visiting Indian hockey team have been besieged by autograph collectors.
It lias been decided in future to charge 6d for autographs, books to be left with the manager of the team. The money collected will be paid into the Indian earthquake reiief fund.
