SUCCESS OF JEWRY.
Economic Progress Made in Palestine. NOTED RABBI'S IMPRESSION. ' (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Rabbi E. M. Levy, who arrived by the Otranto to become chief minister of the Great Synagogue, Sydney, in succession to the late Rabbi Francis Cohen, declared that all the pessimistic'estimates of the economic possibilities of Palestine had been swept aside by the unparalleled progress that the country had made, thanks to British administration.
He added that the forward movement was not due to ordinary recolonisation motives, or to the return of the Jews from Germany, whose numbers were inconsequential, but to the century-old longing that Palestine should be the spiritual centre of Jewry.
■ Palestine, however, had proved a boon to the victims of oppression.
