A QUIET OPENING.

VALUES ARE STEADY

As is frequently the case, after a holiday break, the Auckland Stock Exchange resumed business with a quiet tone. At this morning's c.TT bidding was fairly steady at late quotations, but there were many gaps on the buying side. x | In the banking section New Zealands were quite steady, and changed hands Id higher, at £2 10/10, after which the market showed £2 10/9 to £2 11/. Ecscrves were unchanged between £0 14/6 and £6 15/. Insurances were decidedly dull with few buyers about, and gas shares also vcro neglected. Sellers offered New Zealand Breweries at £2 14/0, and there were no buyers; New Zealand Newspapers had fresh business at £1 10/3, after which the market rested between £1 18/!) and £1 10/10. "Sun" shares were on oiler at 8/8, with no buyers Government stocks were all in keen demand, except 1940'5, which were a littleeasier, with sellers at £104 10/ and no. buyer. The Noon Gal!. Only one sale was. recorded at noon, and the market tvus dull. Among banks, holders of Commercials reduced their limits to 15/4. Offers of £4 16/G were 'made for South British Insurance, and • sellers quoted 1/ above. For Auckland Gas buyers came in 1/ below sellers at j . £1 6/6.
