"ROPE APPEARED TIED."
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. At the inquest, Constable O'Donnell said that about 12.3:5 yesterday afternoon lie received information that a body was floating-in the Tanif-kf Basin. Constable Davieo and he >vent to the I'anmure wharf. The tu'.e was ->u.t He vent under the wharf, and on the brace supporting the front piles of the b.-'ilie he found the der»i:pose<l bo!y of a wemftr suspended f"om the brae; by one leg. "The body hung head downwards," said Constable O'Donnell. 'The head was-about 2ft from the mud bottom. The body was naked with the exception of part of a cotton singlet that was about the shoulders. The body was held in the position I found it in by a long length of rope that was also across the brace, and entangled at the other end of the rope were two sacks and a piece of canvas." Mr. McKean: Was the rope tied? Constable O'Donnell: It appeared to be tied to the right leg. Mr. McKean:' Were the sacks complete sacks? Constable O'Donnell: They were intact. The inquiry was adjourned 6ine^<Lie.
