SECRETARY FAREWELLED.
The matrons and children of the Epsom Methodist Orphanage, Wesley Home, Mount Albert, and Epworth, assembled on Saturday afternoon to farewell "Uncle Sam," the Rev. S. Griffith, who is retiring from the position of secretary to the board of management after ten years' strenuous service. The gathering was organised by the matrons of the three orphanages and the president of the ladies' committee, Mrs. A. Armitage. .After tea the children presented a very enjoyable programme. At the conclusion of the social, the Eev. E. D. Patchett, speaking on behalf of all interested orphanage workers, and Miss Coatnian, on behalf of the staffs of the various homes, voiced the appreciation of the untiring services rendered by the guest throughout his long term of office. On behalf of the children, Betty Judge then presented Mr. Griffith with a fireside chair and footstool, and Mrs. Griffith with a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers.
