OBITUARY.

MR. C. J. D. BKNNETT.

The death occurred at Gisborne on June 1 of Mr. Charles John Dunlop Bennett, aged 59 years. His father was Mr. C. D. Bennett, one of the founders of the firm of Graham, Pitt and Bennett, later of Bennett and Skerratt. Upon his father's death, Mr. C. J. D. Bennett took over his interest in the latter firm, until the business was sold to the Gisborne Sheep Farmers' Frozen Meat and Mercantile Co. Mr. Bennett then went farming north of Auckland, but returned to Gisborne two years ago. Mr. Bennett was interested in sport, and bred racehorses. He owned many fine performers on the track, notably Gazique, which won for him about £11,000 in stakes. He was a member of both the district racing clubs, and maintained his interest in the turf for nearly 40 years. As a young man he was a fine athlete. At one meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Association he established a record by winning the 100 yards, 220 yards, 440 yards, 440 yards hurdles and high jump in one day. Ho also played for the West End Football Club as a young man, and latterly was a keen bowler. MR. ANDREW ARMOUR. The death of Mr. Andrew Armour, of Parua, Manukau, at the age of 44 years, removes one who before the Great War was in the volunteer and territorial forces. At one time he was holder of the regimental musketry belt of the Auckland.Mounted Rifles, with which body ho served overseas, being in the campaign in Palestine. In his earlier years he was a well-known footballer in the Rodney County. Mr. Armour leaves his wife and two children. MR. G. V. PEARCE. (Bj' Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ' NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The death has occurred of Mr. Henry Ford, aged G4, deputy-superintendent of the New Plymouth fire brigade, of which he had been a member for 44 years. Mr. Ford was the eldest son of a pioneer stttler and was actively associated with the development of Rugby football in Taranaki. He was a prominent Odd' fellow.
