MR. JOHN TEDDY DEAD.

FARMER AND HORSE OWNER.

A former prominent figure in Waikato sporting circles, Mr. John Teddy, died at Jiis residence, "Innee Fallen," Ohaupo, yesterday, aged 57.

Born in Idaho, U.S.A., Mr. Teddy came to New Zealand as a child and took up farming 38 years ago in the Ohaupo district. Later he purchased , the "Innes Fallen" estate, which lie converted into' a model farm. He w'as well known in trotting, racing and show circles. He returned to America 24 years ago, and brought back several trotting sires to the Dominion. He had considerable success in the light harness sport, winning many races with Nut Ansel and Kotomanuka, which he imported, and Anselm and Anseline. He is survived by hie wife and an adult family of nine. NURSE D. A. OLIPHANT. A former matron of St. Helens Hospital, and later of the Auckland Hospital, Nurse D. A. Oliphant has died at Hawke's Bay. She retired from her position in the Auckland Hospital in 1911, to bo married, and seven years ago resumed nursing in 'the Hawke's Bay district, where she was appointed a district nurse to the Maoris. Nurse Oliphant performed notable service during the days following the Napier earthquake. Starting her nursing career at Invercargill in 1897, Nurse Piper (that being her name prior to her marriage) later served on the nursing staff during the war in South Africa. In 1905 she was appointed sub-matron at St. Helens Hospital, Wellington, and later held a similar position in Christchurch until her appointment as matron of St. Helens Hospital in Auckland.

LIEUT.-COLONEL JAMES ENTRICAN. Lieutenant-Colonel James Entrican, whose death occurred at Beckley, England, on March 18, was a cousin of the Entrican family so well known in Auckland, and of whom Mr. A. J. Entrican was deputy-Mayor under different Mayors subsequent to 1910. The late Lieut.-Colonel Entrican was born in limiskillen about 70 years ago, and after finishing his medical course and gaining some hospital experience, joined the army and was for many years in Burnia and India. Since his retirement lie had been living privately in the suburbs of London. Some little time bv>,ek Lieut.-Colonel Entrican intimated to his relatives in Auckland that he contemplated taking a trip to New Zealand. However, lie suffered a sudden heart attack, and from the resultant illness passed away on March 18. ' MR. ALEXANDER CHRISTIE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GORE, this day. The death is reported of Mr. Alexander Christie, of Waikaia. He was born in 1845 and was a well-known runholder and pioneer, having landed in New Zealand in 1850.
