AGAINST WAR.

I think any teacher who terrifies little children with vivid descriptions of the horrors of war is mentally and spiritually deficient— therefore unfit to be a teacher. War is utterly uncivilised, and it is equally barbaric to terrify children with the results of war, instead of teaching the people the true causes of war. Lack of love is one cause, and greed for profits another. A mind that can weigh profit and power in the scales against flesh and blood is utterly inhuman, and yet such are the minds that manipulate "patriotism"! Isn't it time we woke up and realised that the true patriot is the one who desires peace and prosperity for his country? The other causes 'havoc and ruin to his country; peace brings prosperity, and yet the other has the power! The pity of it! That a few diseased minds should have the power to cause brother to destroy brother. And there are still misguided "patriots" who uphold such destruction! These are the ones who need teaching, for these are the ones who feed the war monster. If only they would transfer their patriotism to the cause of universal brotherhood, and so help to rebiuld the earth instead of destroying it! A. BENNETT.
