SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

In honour of Mrs. M. OldershaUv, of Mission Bay, who is leaving by the Aorangi on a trip to England, a morning tea was given on Saturday by Mrs. E. Reynolds at Milne and Choyce's. Among those present were Mesdaines Oldershaw.. Griffiths, L. S. Smith, J. A. Smith and others.

In extending a welcome last evening to Mrs. Violet M. BJake, who had been elected by the parents of pupils ns a member of the committee of the Northcote District High School, the chairman (Mr. Harry Shaw) said this was the firat occasion that a woman had been chosen for the committee. He was pleased that this had been done, and forecasted that it would facilitate Bora>*. of the problems which at times occurred and which could be more appropriately dealt with by a woman.

The Avondale Old-time Sociial Club held its first social of the season in St. Jude's Hall on Saturday evening, taking the form of a mad hatters' dance. During the evening "The Mad Tea Party," from "Alice in Wonderland," was performed by Miss McFarland as Alice, Miss Xell Robb as the Dormouse, Mr. Shortridge as the Mad Hatter, and Mr. Myatt as the March Hare. Prizes for the funniest hats were α-wardsd to Mrs. Marsden and Mr. Waygood, while the Monte Carlo was won by Miss Bollard and partner. Dance music was supplied by the Felix Orchestra.
