RISING RECEIPTS. RETURNS FOR PAST MONTH. ESTIMATE! EXCEEDED. Cash receipts for the Auckland Harbour Board continue to improve, substantial increases in the Waitemata Harbour account and in the Manukau Harbour account being shown in a return for April, which was submitted at a special meeting of the board this afternoon. In subletting his report the treasurer, Mr. C. Garratt, commented that the special reductions in charges for pilotage and water supplied to shipping were reflected in the returns for the seven months of the financial year to date, the decrease being £475*2 for pilotage and £570 for water. In the Waitemata account the cash receipts for last month totalled £33,312, as compared with £30,418 in the same month last year, an increase of £2894. For the seven months the respective figures were £214,420 and £198,914, an increase of £15,512. Tor 'the seven months period the main increases were goods wharfage imports (£9510), crane dues (£4729), and dock and slipway charges £1292), while the main decrease was shown in shipping charges (£2845). In the Manukau account the increase in cash receipts for April was £113, and for the seven months £14.

Estimated receipts for the seven months, reported Mr. Garratt, were ex-' ceeded by £17,018, assuming half of the annual revenue to be receivable in the period, although marked variations had been observed from time to time.

The report of the harbourmaster. Captain H. H. Sergeant, for April showed a total of 539 vessels, totalling 470,335 gross tons and 281,409 net tons. As compared with the same month last year, the returns' for overseas merchant shipping showed an increase of three vessels, those for intercolonial vessels an increase of five vessels, those of' large coastal vessel a decreae of seven vessels, and those of provincial vessels an increase of 52 vessels. In the Manulcau, tile shipping arrivals showed a decrease of six vessels.
