NEW ZEALAND.

PART IN BROADCAST.

Message Heard Over Northern

Hemisphere.

MR. RANSOM'S VOICE,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

New Zealand's acting-Prime Minister, Mr. Ransom, had to keep a 6 a.m. appointment to-day to participate in the Empire radio broadcast associated with the King's jubilee. Radio conditions were so good that Mr. Ransom's message on behalf of New Zealand went on the air in the northern hemisphere direct, as part of the whole series, and was clearly received in the Dominion. One interesting experience was that an official listened to Mr. Ransom direct over the telephone in Wellington, and also over the air from Daventry, this double journey across the world being completed with the delay of scarcely a fraction of a second. The broadcast opened with a narrative of the events of the King's reign, illustrated with vivid background effects, including shouts of "Votes for women!" when the narrator described the suffrage agitation. Greetings direct from all parts of the Empire were transmitted on radio telephone and rebroadcast throughout the world. Affectionate Good Wishes. New Zealand's message from Mr. Ransom, which followed the Australian message, was as follows:— "The Dominion of New Zealand appreciates the privilege of joining in this Empire-wide broadcast in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty. New Zealand, the Britain of the South, prides itself on its British descent and on devotion to the Crown and the British Commonwealth of Nations. In no part of the King's Dominions is there a fuller and n.ore heartfelt appreciation of the selfless Way His Majesty has performed the duties of his exalted office. "As the representative of every section of the people of the Dominion, pakeha and Maori, I extend our most affectionate and respectful congratulations to His Majesty and the Queen, and express a very earnest prayer that they may long be spared to continue their beneficent efforts for the good of all the British people." The broadcast concluded with the King's message to his people.
