MOTORIST'S SACRIFICE.
What might have been a very serious accident was averted in Paris by the presence of mind and altruism of a private motorist whose name deserves to be "mentioned in dispatches," H. Louis Villenellve. He happened to be driving up the sharp rise of the Rue Roehechouart when he . saw an
unattended 7-ton lorry starting to run away backwards down the bill. 'J he vehicle was some distance away and he had plenty of time to avoid it. Behind him, however, was an important crossing, where the lorry might have crashed into the traffic with serious results impossible to conjecture. - Overcoming « natural impulse to dodge, M. Villoneuve deliberately stalled his engine, jammed on the hand brake, opened the door and jumped clear, leaving his car in the direct path of the advancing mass. The impact was terrific, but the car held firm and stopped the lorry's wild career. Damage to the car was considerable; in fact, it was an undesirable wreck.
