DISCUSSION AFTERNOON
PENWOMEN ON EDUCATION. A discussion afternoon was licld at the Pen women's Club on Friday. Among questions submitted was that of the ideal education of girls. In the opinion of Mrs. Rybum, a general education ehould first be given, followed by the develonnient of any special talent. Miss May Hansard stres?ed the desirability of obtaining an equal balance among the physical, aesthetic, classical and mathematical fiides of education. One speaker included carpentry among the useful subjects to be taught to girls. Regarding the need for a universal language, Mrs. Carr-Rollett said that recent authorities were discarding the idea of Esperanto, and substituting both English' and French in its place. Tn the opinion of Mrs. Rattray a universal language would soon degenerate into a number of dialects according to the geographical position and former language (if each country. Mrs. Carr-Rollet presided.
